ABOUT ME

Hard Work. Honest Answers.

Stronger Schools.

My name is Mike Rathbone, and I’m honored to be running for the District 51 School Board.

I’m a U.S. Army Veteran, a youth hockey coach, the fiance of a dedicated District 51 educator, and a proud father of four children currently attending public schools. I’m also a graduate of Central High School, Class of 2010.

During my time in the Army as an infantryman, I served alongside individuals from all backgrounds, working together in high-pressure environments to achieve shared objectives. Those experiences instilled in me a deep respect for accountability, teamwork, and clear communication—qualities that continue to guide me in everything I do.

As a youth hockey coach, I’ve spent countless hours mentoring young people in our valley. I don’t just teach the game—I teach discipline, teamwork, and responsibility. These same principles should be the foundation of our education system.

As a parent with four kids in our public schools, I understand firsthand the challenges students, families, and educators face. I’m not a career politician—I’m a parent, a coach, and a community member who believes we must focus on the basics: strong academics, safe learning environments, and equipping students with the skills and character they need to succeed.

I grew up in this valley, and I’m proud to give back to the community that shaped me. I’m running because I believe in public education that reflects the values of our families and focuses on preparing students for real life. I’m committed to listening, learning, and ensuring that the voices and values of our community are at the heart of every decision we make.

Let’s build a school district our kids are proud of, our educators are supported in, and our entire community stands behind—because when we invest in our schools, we invest in our future.
